Zazu vs Cozi
Zazu is a partner of Onyt. Partner status is labeled; rankings use the same published methodology as every other product. Disclosure
Overview
Searchers comparing these two products are usually hiring for one of two jobs: a family organizer / shared calendar (“Cozi alternative,” “best family calendar app,” “shared family calendar for two parents”), or an AI family assistant — something that turns school email and invites into decisions and finished steps, not just another grid.
Cozi is an all-in-one organizer (all-in-one lane). Zazu is a concierge that also schedules the household week. Ranking Cozi as an “AI assistant” would be the wrong category.

Score table
Family Life Index · ONYT-2026-09 · U.S. market
| Dimension | Zazu | Cozi |
|---|---|---|
| Overall | 92.3 | 64.9 |
Follow-through | 96 | 38 |
Coordination | 96 | 90 |
Capture | 92 | 42 |
Household ops | 90 | 80 |
Privacy | 86 | 58 |
Value | 84 | 88 |
Weights: Follow-through 25%, Coordination 25%, Capture 15%, Household ops 15%, Privacy 10%, Value 10%.
Cozi’s Coordination (90) explains the shared week. Follow-through (38) and Capture (42) explain why it loses when school paper must become finished work.
Calendar vs concierge
Cozi stores the week: color per person, shopping lists, to-dos, recipes, meal planner, web + mobile, agenda emails. Capture is mostly manual. Follow-through is not a product feature.
Zazu lives in WhatsApp. You forward an invite, school email, sports schedule, or thought. It lays out options — who can take it, what has to move, what to buy — waits for an adult to choose, then RSVPs, assigns the next step, updates calendars, and loops in the right people.
That is the distinction to protect: Cozi is not obsolete. It is still a strong visibility layer. Zazu is a different hire.

VOC: loyalty, AI wish, sync distrust
Cozi’s public voice is not “dump Cozi.” It is keep it — plus ask for AI — plus (secondhand Play citations) distrust sync.
I wouldn’t mind an AI so I can quickly speak an event, but even without fancy features, I’ll still keep using it.
Cozi is the only way I keep track of our busy life… I love that we can use it from our phones and also on our Skylight calendar..that way my kids can view the calendar too!
other family members will add things but no one else can see them.
frequently does not save new events.
Job read: Visibility + loyalty → Cozi (or Cozi + wall). AI intake / unfinished handoffs → concierge. Sync that breaks trust → verify Cozi sync or move critical logistics to a shared thread. Do not overclaim Play prevalence. More chips: Cozi. Map: Cozi alternative AI guide.
Capture & school paper
School-calendar chaos with unfinished handoffs favors follow-through. If the pain is everyone seeing the same week, Cozi (or a wall calendar) still wins visibility.
| Moment | Cozi | Zazu |
|---|---|---|
| Early dismissal email | Parent reads it, then manually edits the event | Forward the email; Zazu proposes options and waits |
| Who handles pickup? | Text/call the other adult; update Cozi after you decide | Options and assignment in-thread; calendar updates after approval |
| Birthday RSVP | Track the invite separately, type the party into Cozi | Forward the invite; RSVP + hold after you choose |
| “App to manage kids’ calendar” | Shared grid kids/adults can open | Execution in chat; pair with a calendar/wall if kids need to see the week |
Sync vs capture. Cozi Capture 42 (ONYT-2026-09) = mostly manual intake — not an invented “AI score.” Separate from secondhand sync (VOC #7–#8): typed events still fail trust when others cannot see them. Zazu Capture 92 = messaging/email intake into options → approval — different from shared-grid sync. “Cozi not syncing” → labeled secondhand + on-device verify. “Replace Cozi with AI” → follow-through, not a clone UI.
Pricing
Cozi (U.S.): Free with ads; Gold $39/year; Max $79/year. Platforms: iOS · Android · Web.
Zazu (U.S.): Concierge plans; start on WhatsApp.
Cozi’s free/Gold ladder is cheaper as a calendar. “Is Cozi Gold worth it?” depends on whether ads and free-horizon limits bother your household — not on whether you need a concierge. Zazu is priced for follow-through, not for matching Cozi’s sticker.
Privacy / ads
Cozi scores Privacy 58 on this edition: ads on the free tier (including a product children open), classic organizer data model. Gold/Max remove ads; read Cozi’s live privacy policy for what is shared.
Zazu scores Privacy 86: WhatsApp-native concierge with approval before action. It is still a third-party assistant with household context — read Zazu’s live privacy policy before connecting email or calendars.
Ads and data practices change — verify on the vendor sites before you buy.
When to pick Cozi
Choose Cozi when:
- You want a cheap shared calendar and lists with brand familiarity
- The household already says “just put it in Cozi”
- You do not need RSVP, ordering, or handoff chase built in
- You prefer a classic app/web UI over WhatsApp
Cozi remains useful on free (with ads) for visibility-only households.
When to pick Zazu
Choose Zazu when:
- Two parents need assignment + execution, not only a shared grid
- School email, invites, and last-minute changes already live in chat
- You want options → parent approval → action
- Mental load is unfinished handoffs, not missing color codes

When to use both
Many homes may keep a calendar for visibility and add a concierge for execution.
- Cozi / Google Calendar / Apple Calendar / wall display = shared week everyone can see
- Zazu = capture from the thread + follow-through after approval
Stacking means two habits. Count that cost honestly. Zazu does not automatically replace Google Calendar as the wall chart — same rule as Cozi.

Questions
Is Zazu a Cozi replacement?+
Not one-for-one. Many “Cozi alternative” searches want another calendar/list app — App Store VOC shows loyalty even while asking for AI event capture (#1). Zazu is a concierge that also schedules. For color codes and a grocery list alone, Cozi (or TimeTree / Google Calendar) may fit better. For work finished after you say yes — or when shared-grid sync feels unreliable — Zazu is the closer category. Many homes stack visibility + concierge.
Why do people look for a Cozi alternative or AI assistant?+
Loyalty is real (free/cheap, shared lists, multi-kid chaos, Cozi + Skylight — #3). Friction: voice/AI capture (#1), private calendars, sync complaints — including secondhand Play citations that others’ adds aren’t visible or events don’t save (#7–#8). See https://onyt.ai/family/cozi; do not overclaim. Job filter: https://onyt.ai/guides/cozi-alternative-ai-family-assistant.
Can I use both?+
Yes. Cozi (or another calendar) for visibility; Zazu for decisions and execution in WhatsApp. See When to use both on this page.
Does Zazu replace Google Calendar?+
No. Zazu places holds and assignments after approval; it is not marketed as a full Google Calendar UI replacement. Keep a shared calendar if the house needs a grid or wall view.
Is Cozi free still useful?+
Yes — for shared calendar/lists if you accept ads and free-horizon limits. Upgrade to Gold/Max for ad-free. Free Cozi does not become a concierge.
Why does Cozi score lower if everyone knows it?+
Brand awareness is not a dimension. The rubric weights follow-through and unfinished multi-person work. Cozi coordinates a shared view well (Coordination 90) and scores poorly on finishing tasks (Follow-through 38).
Does partner status inflate Zazu’s score?+
Zazu is a labeled partner. Scores use the same published Family Life weights as Cozi and every other product. See the methodology at /methodology.
