Apple Intelligence and the on-device ceiling
The most private assistant in the U.S. pocket is still bottlenecked by Siri. That is a system fact, not a review score.
Apple Intelligence is on-device first, Private Cloud Compute second, and missing on machines that are merely old. Siri is still the mouth. For a parent who will not send school email to a lab, that architecture is the product. For a parent who needs the other adult looped in after a forwarded PDF, it is not.
The system fact: Apple owns the rail (pocket, watch, lock screen) and refuses the household graph as a cloud object. Google owns the calendar graph and is happier in the cloud. Meta just put an agent on WhatsApp. Those are three different theories of where an assistant is allowed to live.
Do not rank a privacy policy as a concierge
Apple will win some “best assistant” roundups on principle. Onyt files it as the privacy ceiling with a Siri bottleneck. If your constraint is data, start there. If your constraint is Saturday, keep walking.
